Best known for his astonishingly detailed "Alexander's Victory," Albrecht Altdorfer is one of Germany's finest artists. A grand, sweeping work illustrating the Battle of Issus between Alexander the Great's Macedonians and the Persian army of Darius III, "Alexander's Victory" is remarkable for both its fine detail and overall proportions. Albrecht's emphasis on dark colors and neutral shades is also evident in the landscape piece "St. George."
