Undeservingly written out of art history at
one point, interest in Adolphe-William Bouguereau's work has
experienced a stunning revival in recent years. While proponents
of Impressionism still critique Bouguereau's Salon painting style
as "spiritually dead," the technical skill and attention
to detail that characterize this artist's work are themselves
evidence of emotional intensity. Bouguereau's work, like his
life, spans the breadth and depth of 19th century French society,
manifesting both outward calm and implicit tension. |
NOTE: New images for the artists you are
viewing will be added constantly. The works presented here are
only a partial sampling of our extensive archives.
