Alberto Burri's fascination with debris
and everyday items is reminiscent of the Dadaist emphasis on
the ordinary as artistic. Never a "painter" in the
strictest sense, Burri experimented with various textures, including
burlap, iron, linen and wood on canvas. However, the grace and
careful detail of pieces such as "Sacco" (discarded
items meshed together on a canvas frame) reflects the workings
of a clearly artistic imagination.
