Taking his main inspiration and influence
from the Renaissance artist Raphael, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres
was best known for his painting of nudes. His most famous nude
work, "The Bather of Valpincon," has become almost
legendary in its renown. The painting has been praised for its
bold simplicity, realistic color tones and attention to detail,
ideals that characterized all of Ingres' work.
