While Kurt Schwitters was never accepted
into the greater community of Dada artists (he was refused membership
in George Grosz's Berlin group), his work clearly bears the mark
of a Dadaist in spirit. Collage pieces such as "Picture
of Spatial Growths" use ordinary items (postage stamps,
envelopes, business cards) as a commentary on the redundant novelty
of modern life. Schwitters later formed his own Dada offshoot
in Hanover, Germany.
