| Henri de
Toulouse-Lautrec, himself tragically a victim of congenital deformities,
created with his art a world in which the physical sphere reflected
the grace and mere spartan necessity he himself so longed for.
Figures in Toulouse-Lautrec works seem hypnotically suspended,
models of serenity and peace in a world that, too often and to
Toulouse-Lautrec himself, brought only pain and misery. As labors
of love, the pieces produced by this artist in an all too short
life remain unparalleled. |
